Go to original article

Even if Chivas officials previously turned down the signing of Jared Borgetti, this past Wednesday Mexico's top goalscoarer was confirmed as the new Chivas player for the next six months. Club Deportivo Guadalajara reached an agreement with 35-year-old Jared Borgetti, to defend the Chivas jersey for the next six months in both the Torneo Clausura 2009 and Copa Libertadores.

Chivas Vice President Néstor de la Torre, presented Mexico's top goalscoarer with a project which left the player impressed on how Chivas functions as an institution with short, medium and long term goals.

"I believe there was a great synergy, with the institutional values and his sporting requirements," De la Torre stated.  "We agreed a lot in that sense and both parties reached a satisfactory agreement."

"The most important thing is that there was a communion of ideas in the sports project for the two tournaments (Clausura 2009 and Copa Libertadores) between Jared and the institution."

The VP also indicated that Borgetti's vast experience can contribute a lot in the football aspect to a young Chivas squad.

"Borgetti is a player that can radiate lots of experience to our youngsters, which is the interesting part," he said.

In turn, the former Monterrey striker will wear the number 21 Chivas jersey and indicated that he will defend it with passion, pride and determination.

"To win the InterLiga, the Copa Libertadores and Torneo Clausura 2009, will obviously seduce anyone," Borgetti declared.  "I don't come to Chivas to receive a showcase to be further recognized or return to the national team, I come to Chivas to deliver my goals, my dedication, and cooperate with a project to be a winning and championship team everywhere."

"I am not an instructor, I'm a goalscoarer and I come to deliver my goals," he emphasized.

Despite having international recognition the veteran goalscoarer assured that he does not have a guaranteed starting spot and will train hard like a rookie to earn playing time.

This will be Borgetti's seventh club in México and ninth overall, most known for his success at Santos Laguna and for being the first Mexican to play in the English Premier League with Bolton Wanderers.

Borgetti is the fifth Chivas signing of the new year, joining new recruits Sergio Amaury Ponce, Carlos Ochoa, Francisco Mendoza and Aarón Galindo.  Borgetti, Mendoza and Galindo will be officially presented on Thursday, January 15
